How long does the session last?
The length of the session is approximately 50 minutes, which is known as the “therapeutic hour”. This enables Angela to use the remaining 10 minutes after your appointment to attend to your treatment plan and complete your clinical record. In the event that the completion of psychometric tests is required, it may be necessary to schedule a longer appointment.
How many appointments will I need?
The number of sessions required will vary according to the individual, as well as the issues involved. Four to 10 sessions is reasonably standard, however some individuals may only require one or two sessions, where others may benefit from ongoing assistance. Generally, more complex problems require more sessions.
What do I need to bring to my first session?
It is important for you to bring a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan (if you have one), as well as any referral letter from your referring practitioner. If you intend to use the HICAPS facility to process your Medicare claim, you should also make sure you have your Medicare card.
How do I get a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)?
You need to make an ‘extended’ appointment with your General Practitioner (GP). Your GP will then assess your eligibility for a MHCP, and if you qualify, they will prepare a MHCP for you. You will be provided with a copy of this plan which you need to bring to your first session with Angela. In most cases, your GP will also provide you with a written referral.
